Cam Skattebo's college football career at Arizona State University has caught the attention of NFL teams as he enters the draft process. His performance on the field has been noted by many, including Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon, who remarked, "(Arizona State coach) Kenny (Dillingham) brings it over to me and says, 'Why don't you check this guy out.'" Gannon further commented on Skattebo's season saying, "I'm not through that part of the evaluation process but I know he lit it up this year."
Despite his achievements at ASU, Skattebo faces challenges in a draft year crowded with talented running backs. Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 216 pounds, his physical presence is notable, though his speed remains under scrutiny. He plans to demonstrate his abilities during ASU's pro day on March 27 instead of running the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Skattebo himself is confident in his capabilities: "It's pretty simple," he said. "I'm physical, people don't think I'm as fast as I am, which I am fast." His aggressive style of play has been likened to James Conner by NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah: "He just chooses violence... more of anything he reminds me of a Plinko chip from 'The Price is Right' bouncing off everything and everybody."
While Arizona fans might hope for him to join their team, it's unlikely given their recent investment in other players. Nonetheless, Skattebo maintains strong ties to Arizona: "That's forever home," he stated.
His journey began at Sacramento State before transferring to ASU where he honed his skills and matured both personally and professionally. His final season stats include 1,711 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on 293 carries.
ESPN draft analyst Jordan Reid praised Skattebo: "He's one of the best stories... one of the players who just lays it all on the line." As Skattebo prepares for potential selection in the NFL Draft, he's eager to showcase his improved pass blocking and receiving skills alongside his renowned running prowess.
Skattebo emphasized his approach to playing football: "If you've got the ball in your hands, the objective is to get the ball in the end zone," demonstrating his commitment every time he steps onto the field.
