The University of Phoenix College of Doctoral Studies has released a white paper titled “Leadership Imperatives to Overcome Talent Stagnation.” Authored by Andrew Lawlor, Ph.D., the document addresses challenges in talent management and organizational growth.
Lawlor, who is affiliated with the College and the Center for Educational and Instructional Technology Research (CEITR), utilizes data from the University of Phoenix Career Institute's 2024 Career Optimism Index study. The paper highlights issues such as talent stagnation and a disconnect between employers and employees. It also explores how effective talent management can mitigate these challenges.
According to Lawlor, “Building a learning culture of growth and development by not only offering programs but integrating them into the workplace requires leadership and vision.” He adds that leaders should foster an environment where workers feel valued for their current contributions and potential future roles within the organization.
With a career spanning various educational roles, Lawlor brings extensive experience to his analysis. His background includes positions in K-16 education, educational technology services, academic program management, institutional research support, and information technology leadership. Currently consulting for CampusWorks, Inc., he previously served as vice president for Information Technology Services & CIO at Bucks County Community College and held several roles at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
Lawlor's academic credentials include a bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh, a master's in education from Gannon University, and a doctorate in Educational Administration from Kent State University. Since 2004, he has been part of the faculty at the University of Phoenix.
The complete white paper is accessible on the Career Institute webpage or via a direct link provided by the university.
