PVSchools, in collaboration with the PV Schools Education Foundation, hosted an event titled "Dancing with the Universe - Native Style" at Paradise Valley High School. The performances were organized in partnership with Scottsdale Arts to highlight the traditional instruments, dances, and attire of Southwestern Native American tribes.
The event featured performers from the Hopi, Diné (Navajo), Hualapai, and San Carlos Apache tribes. Through vivid imagery, they narrated stories about seasons, cycles, and humanity's connection to nature. Among the performances were dances depicting animals like eagles and horses that hold cultural and spiritual significance for many Native American tribes. These dances showcased graceful movements and vibrant costumes that engaged the audience while bringing these animal stories to life.
The showcase was designed to align with 3rd and 4th grade standards, recognizing and honoring the cultures, traditions, and achievements of various Native American tribes across the U.S. and Arizona. Arizona hosts 22 federally recognized tribes that contribute significantly to the state's culture, history, and traditions.
