At Greenway Middle School, Principal Jorge Ontiveros is recognized for his dedication to parent participation and his care for staff and students. A significant initiative he has introduced is a personal approach to Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTCs).

During conference nights, Mr. Ontiveros, often referred to as Mr. O, personally greets each parent with a handshake and a warm smile. He engages with them about their child's progress and any challenges they face at Greenway.

Parents value Principal Ontiveros' attentiveness and ability to connect on a personal level, feeling heard and encouraged to be more involved in their child's education.

His compassion extends beyond parent engagement; he also supports his staff by recognizing their achievements. Staff members appreciate his leadership, feeling empowered to perform their best work, benefiting the students.

Mr. Ontiveros' commitment has fostered a positive learning environment at Greenway Middle School. He sets an example for educators by prioritizing relationships and open communication within the school community.

Explaining his motivation for this approach, Mr. Ontiveros shared that growing up in a Hispanic family where his mother struggled with fear and shame influenced him. He believes education is teamwork and values building relationships with families and teachers. For him, “being able to shake the parent's hands and tell them we are here to support them is the greatest satisfaction of the night.”

Maria, a parent at Greenway, mentioned that Mr. O's approachable nature makes her confident in seeking help from the school. Her son looks forward to attending school due to Mr. O's engaging presence during break times.

Vanessa, a student, noted that Mr. Ontiveros' involvement motivates her academically because she wants him to be proud of her efforts. She appreciates his encouragement at games and around the school.
