The Arizona Cardinals are set to experience a change in their coaching staff for the 2025 season. Virginia Tech has announced that Sam Siefkes, previously the linebackers coach for the Cardinals, will join them as their new defensive coordinator.

This marks the first official alteration to Jonathan Gannon's coaching team since he took over in 2023. The Cardinals have yet to announce who will fill Siefkes' position.

Siefkes joined Gannon's staff from the Minnesota Vikings and transitioned from college football to the NFL in 2021. Commenting on Siefkes' departure, Gannon told ESPN, "Virginia Tech and coach (Brent) Pry are getting a remarkable leader in the coaching world. Sam is a fantastic communicator, teacher and has unbelievable knowledge on how to stop offenses."

During his tenure with the Cardinals, Siefkes worked with inside linebackers such as Kyzir White, Mack Wilson Sr., Krys Barnes, and Owen Pappoe.
