Paradise Valley High School recently hosted the annual District Spelling Bee, featuring top student spellers from grades 4 through 8. These students competed for a spot in the upcoming Arizona State Spelling Bee scheduled for March.
Superintendent Dr. Jason Reynolds opened the event by welcoming students, staff, and parents. He encouraged participants to perform at their best and expressed gratitude towards Paradise Valley High School and volunteers for organizing the event.
Participants faced a challenging task with a study list of 450 words from the School Spelling Bee as well as needing familiarity with around 4,000 words from the Words of Champions list.
PVSchools acknowledged all students who took part in both preliminary school and district levels. The district winner was Emelia Busby, an 8th grader from Mountain Trail Middle School, while Rohit Swaroop, a 7th grader from Sunrise Middle School, secured the runner-up position.
The Arizona State Spelling Bee is set for March 15, 2025. The state winner will progress to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May. This year marks the centennial celebration of the first National Spelling Bee held in 1925.
