Grand Canyon University (GCU) is set to participate in the Friday Night Axe 'Em Open at Northern Arizona's Walkup Skydome. This event marks GCU's second meet of the season and its first large-scale competition, with over 90 student-athletes attending.

The schedule for the event includes field events starting at 1 p.m. and running events commencing at 3 p.m. GCU head coach Tom Flood expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming indoor season, stating, "We all are very excited for our 2025 indoor season to begin and to compete as a complete team."

In December, GCU had approximately 30 athletes participate in the Spokane Invitational, which Flood described as "the best first meet in our program's storied history by far." He noted that both newcomers and experienced returners contributed significantly to their performance.

Flood highlighted the team's preparation, saying, "We've had outstanding practices this fall, in all event areas, and will once again have very well-balanced teams." The team has not competed since December 14th but will now face a busy schedule leading up to the WAC Indoor Championships on February 28th.

Looking ahead, Flood remarked on their goals: "We look to begin our run to defend both our women's team WAC indoor title and get back to our winning ways with the men's team in Spokane this year." Last year, GCU's women won their sixth WAC Indoor Track & Field Championship while the men reclaimed their title during the outdoor season.

GCU plans four meets in Flagstaff this season and additional competitions in Albuquerque and Spokane. Live results for Friday's events will be available online.
