Jonathan Gannon, head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, had warned about the Carolina Panthers' improved performance ahead of their matchup. Despite this, the Cardinals faced a disappointing defeat in overtime against the Panthers with a score of 36-30 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. This loss effectively ended their hopes for playoff contention.

The Cardinals needed a win to set up an important game against the Los Angeles Rams. However, after reaching overtime, they were unable to secure victory. "It sucks," said running back Michael Carter, reflecting on the team's hard-fought effort that ultimately fell short.

Carter was thrust into a leading role after James Conner left due to a knee injury in the third quarter. Before his exit, Conner had been instrumental with 166 scrimmage yards and was pivotal in keeping the team competitive.

Kyler Murray managed to lead a field-goal drive late in regulation time with Chad Ryland successfully kicking a 58-yard field goal to tie the game. The Cardinals' defense forced an overtime punt but couldn't capitalize on their possession due to penalties and a sack on Murray.

Coach Gannon acknowledged his team's missed opportunity stating, "I know they are down... we didn't do enough." The defense struggled particularly against Chuba Hubbard who ran for 152 yards including crucial plays in overtime that sealed the Panthers' victory.

Injuries have compounded issues for Arizona as both tackles Paris Johnson Jr. and Jonah Williams could be sidelined for upcoming games due to knee injuries.

Murray contributed with both passing and rushing efforts but also made critical errors including an interception during regular play. He remarked on taking Carolina seriously despite the loss saying, "At the end of the day, we didn't get the job done."

As they look forward to two remaining games this season without playoff prospects, Carter expressed gratitude towards his team despite recent setbacks: "I'm grateful to be on a team like this... it's just losing man."

The turning point came when penalties hindered Arizona's progress giving Carolina favorable field position which they utilized effectively through Hubbard's decisive touchdown run.

Conner's performance stood out along with Ryland’s reliable field goal execution under pressure providing brief hope during regulation time.
