A community project aimed at revitalizing a parking lot in Guadalupe received approval from the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, who allocated $452,000 in Community Solutions funding for the endeavor. This decision was made public on November 20, 2024.

Supervisor Steve Gallardo of District 5 expressed enthusiasm about the project: “While it might seem like just a parking lot, this project is so much more. By renovating this space, we are ensuring that Guadalupe’s Town Hall, a branch of South Mountain Community College, the local library, and beloved mercado are more accessible and welcoming to everyone.” He added that the investment would enhance community connections and support education and local culture.

The renovation will involve significant work on the North and South parking lots next to Guadalupe's Town Hall. Plans include removing existing asphalt, sealing cracks below grade, applying new asphalt and sealcoat, replacing speed humps, updating sidewalk ramps to meet ADA standards, restriping, and repainting the area.

Jeff Kulaga, Town Manager/Clerk of Guadalupe, commented on the broader impact: "Funding this parking lot renovation is a win for the entire community. Improving accessibility to these spaces supports learning, local businesses, and civic engagement. It’s not just about parking – it's about investing in the shared spaces that bring us together and make communities a stronger, more connected place to live.”

Gallardo designated $452,000 from Maricopa County Community Solutions funding specifically for this project within his district. The county provides each supervisor with annual funding aimed at achieving strategic goals that offer public benefits to residents.
