The Arizona Cardinals have not met their expectations this season, and their offensive performance has been inconsistent. However, quarterback Kyler Murray's positive attitude stands out despite the team's struggles.
Reflecting on his past reactions to losses, Murray said on Thursday, "I took losses super hard. Growing up there wasn't a lot of losing. Getting to the league and dealing with failure, I took it super hard. I think it was a detriment. You don't want to learn how to lose, but at the end of the day you kind of have to learn how to deal with those things and continue to play the game at a high level."
Despite advanced metrics indicating that Murray is performing well—remaining among the top eight quarterbacks in ESPN's QBR rating and in expected points added (EPA)—the Cardinals currently hold a 2-4 record.
"It's a long season," Murray stated. "I've been on the end of starting off hot and finishing not where you want to. I also understand the mindset and mentality that we have to have each week and going forward. It's to learn from the last one, focus on the next one."
Looking ahead, the Cardinals will face a challenging Chargers defense on Monday night as they return home after a significant loss in Green Bay. The team expects wide receiver Zay Jones back for this game.
"The last game was pretty bad," acknowledged Murray. "But again, it happens in this league. I think we had a great week last week but Sunday we didn't put it together. I also think we have to remain positive. We know what we have in here. It's not like we've hit rock bottom. I don't think anyone has given up on what we can accomplish."
