The Arizona Cardinals are preparing for the 2025 NFL Draft with a focus on inside linebacker, a key position for their defensive strategy. The team, led by general manager Monti Ossenfort, had 12 picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, the most since 1992. This year, however, their picks are reduced to six, the fewest since Ossenfort's tenure began in 2023. Their first selection will be the 16th overall pick.

"Arizona addressed some of their needs during free agency, but the identity Jonathan Gannon and Ossenfort have built resembles a draft and develop team," according to the Cardinals’ communication.

Currently, the Cardinals have six players under contract for the inside linebacker position, including Mack Wilson Sr., Owen Pappoe, Akeem Davis-Gaither, and others. The departure of linebacker Kyzir White in free agency, along with depth player Krys Barnes yet to sign with another team, leaves the Cardinals needing to fill voids at this critical position.

In the draft, the Cardinals have been projected by various mock drafts to select Jihaad Campbell from Alabama. Campbell is noted for his impressive previous season, where he made over 100 tackles, despite concerns over a recent labrum surgery. If fully healed, Campbell could be a strong addition to the team's lineup. Georgia's Jalon Walker is seen as another option, offering similar versatility to current player Mack Wilson Sr.

"General manager Monti Ossenfort didn’t rule out the possibility of bringing back their own free agents," but the Cardinals are keeping options open for additions through the draft. If a suitable candidate like Campbell is available, the team will consider him, depending on the internal assessment of their current roster.

With the draft approaching, the Cardinals remain focused on securing talent to strengthen their squad and address key areas for growth and development. The organization’s strategy will be influenced by both who is available and the potential within their existing team lineup.
