Grayhawk Elementary School has been named the National Aerospace Connections in Education (ACE) School of the Year by the Civil Air Patrol. This organization, which is a congressionally chartered and federally supported non-profit, acts as the civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force. The ACE program aims to engage students from kindergarten through sixth grade in aerospace STEM education, encouraging them to consider careers in aviation, space, or other STEM fields.
The school hosted an event earlier this week to mark the beginning of the 2024-2025 National ACE Liftoff Ceremony. Principal Eli Hubbell led the celebration at Grayhawk Elementary School in Scottsdale. Attendees included PVSchools’ interim superintendent Dr. Jason Reynolds, members of the Governing Board and Cabinet, as well as parents, students, and staff.
Students wore purple t-shirts provided by the Civil Air Patrol in partnership with AFA. Other highlights of the event were mascots, military colors presentations, a Cessna flyover, and an appearance by Scottsdale Mayor David Ortega.
Sixth graders expressed their enthusiasm for STEAM education at Grayhawk. Charlie H., a student, said he enjoys "the projects we do," while Noah H. highlighted his interest in "3D printing and the projects."
Superintendent Reynolds engaged with students about their curriculum and emphasized that arts are an integral part of STEAM education.
Michelle Lindstrom was recognized as the 2024 National CAP ACE School Coordinator of the Year for her contributions to Grayhawk's success in receiving this award.
