Drew Petzing, the offensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals, was not watching when Kyler Murray completed a crucial 14-yard pass to Marvin Harrison Jr. on fourth-and-5 during Sunday's game. Petzing explained that he focuses on planning the next play in case of an incomplete pass. "If we don't convert, it's a non-issue for me," Petzing stated. "My mind is already there."
The decision to target Harrison was intentional, according to Petzing, reinforcing Murray's postgame comments about trusting the rookie despite his limited success earlier in the game. The San Francisco 49ers applied heavy pressure, forcing Murray to throw off his back foot. This allowed Harrison to make a pivotal catch.
"Ideally there is no one near him, and it is routes on air," Petzing remarked humorously. He acknowledged that in critical moments against strong teams, defenses often rush five or six players and use man coverage.
Harrison's overall performance has been under scrutiny as he accumulated only 145 yards over the last three games after a strong showing against the Rams with 130 yards. However, his key play led to a game-winning field goal.
Reflecting on the moment after the game, Petzing said, "I got to watch it after the game," adding that he appreciated witnessing it.
