The Arizona Cardinals are preparing to bolster their defensive line with the potential return of rookie Darius Robinson. Head Coach Jonathan Gannon announced that the team will open the practice window for Robinson this week. This move allows the first-round draft pick to join his teammates on the field after a calf injury sidelined him before the season began.
Gannon expressed his anticipation, stating he wants to see Robinson "just move around and play football." The official return-to-play designation is expected by Wednesday ahead of practice sessions.
Currently on Injured Reserve, Robinson has a three-week period within which he can be activated to the 53-man roster. His activation could occur as soon as Saturday, in time for the Cardinals' upcoming game against the Green Bay Packers.
Robinson impressed during training camp and was poised to make an impact this season. He participated in 10 snaps during the preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints, performing well enough that Coach Gannon opted not to risk him in subsequent games.
Despite these precautions, Robinson's injury occurred during practice, keeping him off the field until now. Meanwhile, veteran defensive lineman Justin Jones has been ruled out for the season due to a triceps injury.
