When Nick Rallis arrived in Arizona as the youngest defensive coordinator in the NFL at age 29, he began his tenure with a focus on fundamentals. For tackling techniques, Rallis utilized video clips already present in the team's system.

"We just pulled Budda (Baker) clips because it's on point with the fundamentals of tackling," Rallis stated.

In a recent victory against the Rams, Cardinals safety Budda Baker led the team with eight tackles and ranks second on the team with three tackles for loss through two games. One notable tackle occurred just before halftime when Baker halted Rams running back Kyren Williams near the Cardinals' goal line, preventing a touchdown and shifting momentum.

Earlier in the game, Baker made a critical play by stopping Cooper Kupp on fourth down. His performance throughout was characterized by speed and physicality.

"I'm just trying to pick a hip and stay on it, and if I miss it, at least I made them slow down to help our other guys get to the ball," Baker explained. "It's definitely something I work on each and every day. Our coaches do a great job. It's routine."

Baker's style of play exemplifies what the coaching staff seeks from their players. Head coach Jonathan Gannon praised Baker's football intelligence along with his skill set and fundamentals.

A captain for five seasons and a six-time Pro Bowler, Baker is playing in his contract year but has consistently focused on his game while letting his agent handle contract matters.

Whenever Baker addresses the team, he commands attention. Fellow safety Jalen Thompson highlighted Baker's dedication to film study and its impact on his gameplay.

"With film study and all that, when you know what's going to happen, it makes the game a lot easier," Thompson said. "I feel like with his tackling, he knows where the ball is going to go along, and it makes his tackle a lot easier."

The Cardinals will face NFC finalist Lions next Sunday. Lions quarterback Jared Goff acknowledged Baker's prowess.

"He's one of the top safeties in the league... I've seen him flying around the field for almost ten years now," Goff commented.

Baker aims to leave an impact against Detroit as well.

"We love to work and we love to live in the present," Baker said. "We just love the preparation... No one ever gets too high or too low. We try to take it one play at a time."

Reflecting on his eight-year tenure with Arizona, Baker expressed satisfaction but remains focused on daily improvement.
