Banner Alzheimer’s Institute will host a free bilingual community event, "Alzheimer's in the Hispanic Community: Prevention, Care, and How You Can Help," on Saturday, September 21, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Peoria Community Center, located at 8335 W Jefferson St.
The event aims to assist individuals interested in learning more about navigating life with Alzheimer's disease. Topics will include prevention, diagnosis, current treatments, caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's and related dementias, and opportunities to participate in research on the disease.
Participants will also have the chance to connect with dementia care specialists from around the valley and receive resources from community organizations working together to end Alzheimer's and prevent losing another generation.
All educational presentations will be conducted in both Spanish and English. The event will feature food and a lottery game.
Hispanic Americans are 1.5 times more likely to develop Alzheimer's or another dementia than white Americans, according to the Alzheimer's Association. At least one in ten Hispanics over age 65 has Alzheimer's or another dementia.
Registration is required to attend the event. Call 602-230-CARE or visit www.BannerHealth.com/AlzheimersHispanicCommunity
