Friends and family have launched a GoFundMe to support Captain Scott Leatham of the Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department, who has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

According to his GoFundMe page, Leatham has been diagnosed with NUT carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. The GoFundMe campaign seeks to raise funds to cover the costs of his medical treatments, potential travel for specialized care, and the everyday expenses that continue to accumulate as he undergoes treatment. Despite the challenges ahead, Leatham remains a devoted husband to his wife, Ashley, and a loving father to their two children, Kaden and Kali.

On August 15, AZFamily.com interviewed Scott Leatham’s friend Chris Hammond and fellow firefighter Doug Myers, who talked about the Go-FundMe page that had been set up for Leatham’s family to help with medical expenses. Myers said "this is the time they need us, brothers and sisters of the firefighter community and the entire community to rally behind them, and help in their time of need.”

Latham, a 38-year-old father and first responder, had been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor behind his eye after months of headaches initially thought to be a sinus infection. He is currently undergoing intensive chemotherapy and is in the ICU at Banner Gateway Medical Center, WDBJ-7 reported. Supporters describe Scott as a pillar of positivity and strength, urging the community to help his family during this difficult time.

“Scott has always been the first to step up in times of need, offering his strength, courage, and compassion to those in crisis,” according to his GoFundMe page. “Now it’s our turn to stand by him. Your donation, no matter how big or small, will make a significant difference in Scott’s fight to help ensure that he and his family can focus on what truly matters – beating cancer.”

Initially joining the Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department in February 2013, Leatham has risen to the rank of Captain Paramedic. He currently serves as the captain for E278/SQ278 and is also a technical rescue technician, SWAT medic, and member of the dive team.
