The Cardinals will be without wide receiver Zay Jones for the first five games of the regular season after the NFL announced his suspension on Friday for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Jones had a misdemeanor domestic battery charge in Florida dropped in March while he was still with the Jaguars. The NFL decided to impose its suspension after conducting its own investigation.

The Cardinals have built some depth in their receiver room, and Jones was still battling to secure a roster spot. Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson, and Greg Dortch are set to be the top three wideouts. Jones was aiming for the No. 4 position, with veterans Chris Moore and Zach Pascal, as well as undrafted rookie Xavier Weaver, also being considered.

Jones will not count against the 53-man roster while suspended. He is eligible to return on October 7 before the Cardinals play in Green Bay.

Last season, Jones played in only nine games for the Jaguars, making 34 receptions for 321 yards and two touchdowns. However, in 2022, the eight-year veteran had his best season with 82 catches for 823 yards along with five touchdowns.
