The NFL has announced the introduction of an "NFL Integrity Representative" for each team to ensure adherence to its gambling policy. This move comes in response to recent suspensions of players for violating gambling rules, which prohibit betting on NFL events and engaging in gambling activities at team facilities or during team-related travel.
The representatives, described as "typically retired FBI or executive level police officers," will monitor for suspicious activity during games, collaborate with local law enforcement, and support investigations related to potential gambling violations. The league aims to deter infractions and maintain the integrity of the sport amid the growing ease of sports gambling through apps and legalization.
The NFL's gambling policy outlines six main rules for players:
1. Never bet on NFL or any NFL events.
2. Don't have someone bet for you.
3. Don't gamble in any way at your team facility/stadium, while traveling for a road game, or staying at a team hotel.
4. Don't share team 'inside information.'
5. Don't enter a sportsbook during the NFL playing season.
6. Don't play daily fantasy football.
Additionally, an extra rule applies to all non-player NFL employees: Do not bet on any sports.
