PHOENIX (June 12, 2024) - As temperatures rise in Phoenix, Banner Urgent Care is offering IV hydration therapy to patients. The therapy bags contain 1,000 milliliters of sodium and provide quick relief for dehydration. The treatment takes about an hour, but the effects can be felt sooner.
Banner Urgent Care Family Nurse Practitioner Samia Kadri states that IV hydration therapy is suitable for patients with mild dehydration symptoms or those who find water insufficient.
"Symptoms of mild dehydration can include increased thirst, urinating less than normal, and dry mouth," Kadri explains.
For milder cases of dehydration, Kadri suggests a homemade solution of water, salt, and sugar to replenish lost salts and potassium through urination.
"Water is always a good option, but electrolytes are also important," Kadri says. "Sometimes, especially in the summer months, individuals may need more than water."
Hydration needs vary among individuals; athletes or breastfeeding individuals may require more water.
"It's important to check in with your own body," Kadri advises. "If you feel thirsty, it means you're already dehydrated. Having a headache can also be the first sign of dehydration."
Patients visiting urgent care for dehydration may request IV hydration and will be assessed for appropriate care.
"IV hydration is offered year-round to patients, but Banner Urgent Care sees a spike in need during the summer months," Kadri notes.
Banner Urgent Care provides convenient and affordable treatment for non-life-threatening conditions such as cold and flu; ear, eye and throat infections; fevers; skin rashes; sprains; strains; and lacerations.
