WASHINGTON, DC - Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03) on June 17, announced $40,600,307 in grant funding from the Department of Health and Human Services to support Head Start projects in Phoenix.

"Investing in our children's early education is an investment in our future, and I am thrilled to announce these dollars for the City of Phoenix," said Rep. Gallego. "The grant will advance education opportunity and create pathways for success. These funds are key to driving positive change for countless Arizona children."

The funds announced today are in addition to the over $9 million Rep. Gallego announced earlier this year. Supporting Arizona’s children is a top priority for Rep. Gallego, and he was grateful to discuss how Congress can help improve access to this critical program earlier this year when he met with members of the Arizona Head Start Association.

Administered by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Head Start aims to promote school readiness and provide children with a strong foundation for success in later years. It offers early learning, health, nutrition, and family support to ensure children from disadvantaged backgrounds have the necessary tools to thrive.

Head Start grants specifically support the recruitment of qualified teachers, the expansion of comprehensive early childhood education programs, and research and implementation of innovative approaches to promote child development and well-being.
