City of Phoenix issued the following announcement on Nov. 20.
There were few women pilots in Arizona when aviation pioneer Ruth Reinhold started flying with Phoenix based Copperclad Airways in 1933. She did many things in aviation, from barnstorming to teaching pilots to fly four-engine bombers during World War II. But she probably was best known for being Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater’s pilot for 20 years. The second photograph shows four of the airplanes in the Copperclad fleet including the C-3 Aeronca Collegian, the C-3 Aeronca, the Cirrus Great Lakes, and the SM8-A Stinson. In the background is the Sky Harbor Hangar and the small building hidden by the Aeronca's wings housed the offices of Copperclad Airways.
