The City of Phoenix Water Services Department recently received recognition for its operational excellence from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies, which awarded the local agency two Peak Performance Awards.
The awards went to the 91st Avenue wastewater treatment plant, which received a Silver Award, and the 23rd Avenue wastewater treatment plant, which has received a platinum award 11 years running, according to a press release from the city.
“To be honored amongst an impressive group of utilities contributing to water quality, makes me so proud," Nazario Prieto, assistant director of Phoenix Wastewater Services, said in the release. "It's not an easy job to do but we know how valuable it is."
Stuart Dalbey, deputy director for Phoenix Wastewater Treatment, said that he finds it especially remarkable that the 23rd Avenue plant has received the Platinum Award 11 years in a row.
"This recognition wouldn't be possible without our staff who are committed to environmental responsibility and the community we serve," Dalbey said.
