Barto plans to file complaint over Phoenix's ridesharing fees plan

State Rep. Nancy Barto (R-Phoenix) announced she plans to file a SB 1487 complaint with the state's attorney general if Phoenix adopts a plan to establish airport drop-off fees.

The city is currently considering establishing drop-off fees, which would increase pick-up fees for ridesharing services such as Uber and Lyft at Sky Harbor International Airport, according to a Barto news release.

Barto said if the city moved forward with the current plan, she would file the complaint, noting it would prompt the attorney general to investigate possible violations of state law and the state Constitution.

"When Arizona voters passed Prop 126, they made clear that no new fees or taxes can be imposed or increased on services in this state," Barto said in the release. "The city of Phoenix ignored this constitutional mandate the first time it increased rates on ride-sharing services to Sky Harbor. It should not make that same mistake when it considers the same proposal on Dec. 18."

The city council wants to impose the ride-sharing pickup fee to $5 by 2024, according to the release.
