The Governing Board of PVSchools has announced its decision regarding the new superintendent. During their meeting on March 25, the board unanimously agreed to start contract negotiations with Dr. Todd Cummings, who will assume the role for the 2025-26 school year. Dr. Cummings is set to retire from his position as Superintendent of South Bend Community Schools in Indiana, where he was the longest-serving superintendent in the last quarter-century.
Dr. Todd Cummings has a notable background in educational administration. Before serving as Superintendent, he was the Deputy Superintendent and Director of Human Resources within South Bend schools. In his earlier career, he held various administrative roles at Fort Wayne Community Schools. Dr. Cummings' journey in education began as a middle school teacher, and he established connections with Arizona schools nearly 30 years ago, notably meeting former PVSchools Superintendent Dr. Jim Lee at a conference. Over the years, Dr. Lee had encouraged Dr. Cummings to consider PVSchools, and he has followed the district's progress keenly.
As Dr. Cummings enters his new role, he has committed to continuing his career-long practice of listening and learning. This approach will start with the transition of leadership from the outgoing Superintendent, Dr. Jason Reynolds. Dr. Reynolds is acknowledged for his dedication to PVSchools and will work with Dr. Cummings over the next few months to ensure a seamless transition.
Anne Greenberg expressed gratitude on behalf of the Governing Board, extending thanks to all those who contributed input during the selection process, from providing feedback on the qualities sought in a superintendent to participating in interviews with candidates.
