Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell has announced the indictment of Hunter Strawbridge for the murder of Jake Carbonell. The incident took place in January at a family home in Laveen, where Carbonell was hosting a child's birthday party.
Police reports indicate that during the party, Carbonell was informed that Strawbridge had threatened a female relative with a knife. Despite being asked to leave, Strawbridge continued his threatening behavior. Once outside, a fight broke out and Strawbridge allegedly stabbed Carbonell in the neck. Two other individuals who tried to intervene were also stabbed but survived their injuries. Carbonell was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Strawbridge faces several charges including second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, and tampering with physical evidence. He is currently held on a $1 million cash-only bond with a trial set for June, though the date may change.
"A criminal charge is merely an accusation," stated Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, "and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty."
