The Arizona Cardinals made significant strides in the 2024 season, doubling their win total to finish with eight victories after two consecutive seasons with just four wins. General Manager Monti Ossenfort is credited with strong draft classes and aims to further improve the team as they approach the 2025 season, starting with free agency.

In terms of player contracts for 2025, running back James Conner carries a cap hit of $6,440,000, followed by DeeJay Dallas at $3,068,333. Other running backs under contract include Trey Benson ($1,377,183), Michael Carter ($1,270,000), Emari Demercado ($1,035,000), and Zonovan Knight ($1,030,000).

Despite speculation around free agent acquisitions, the Cardinals are not expected to pursue additional running backs this offseason. The current roster has been effective under head coach Jonathan Gannon's leadership. James Conner achieved career-high rushing yards for two consecutive seasons and plays a pivotal role in mentoring rookie Trey Benson.

Benson was drafted in the third round last April and accumulated 291 rushing yards over 13 games. DeeJay Dallas joined as a free agent in 2024 and primarily contributed on special teams but saw increased offensive action due to injuries within the team. Michael Carter also made notable contributions towards the end of the season after spending most of it on the practice squad.

Looking ahead to potential new talent through drafts or trades remains a point of interest for fans and analysts alike. Arizona State's Cam Skattebo has been linked to the Cardinals as a fan favorite.

Noteworthy past signings include Conner (2021), Chris Johnson (2015), Rashard Mendenhall (2013), Edgerrin James (2006), Emmitt Smith (2003), and Mario Bates (1998).

Photos highlight some top scheduled NFL running back free agents such as J.K. Dobbins from Los Angeles Chargers and Aaron Jones from Minnesota Vikings among others.
