The Arizona Cardinals are preparing for the 2025 season with a focus on strengthening their team through free agency. After doubling their win total in 2024, finishing with eight victories, general manager Monti Ossenfort aims to continue this upward trajectory. Known for assembling strong draft classes, Ossenfort and the organization will first look at free agency to bolster the team.

The Cardinals' secondary has been a key area of focus. Budda Baker remains a standout player, ending his eighth season with 164 tackles and earning his seventh Pro Bowl selection. When Jalen Thompson was sidelined due to an ankle injury, rookie Dadrion Taylor-Demerson stepped up impressively.

Sean Murphy-Bunting was a significant addition last season, bringing leadership to a young group of cornerbacks. Garrett Williams had an impressive season, earning Second Team All-Pro honors from Pro Football Focus. Starling Thomas V started in 15 games, while Max Melton played over 500 snaps as a rookie.

Jonathan Gannon, known for his expertise in defensive backs, has consistently emphasized improving the secondary. Last year’s efforts were primarily through the draft; it remains to be seen if this strategy will change in the upcoming season.

Historically, the Cardinals have made several notable signings for their secondary through free agency. These include Sean Murphy-Bunting (2024), Robert Alford (2019), Tre Boston (2018), and others dating back to Mike Zordich in 1989.

As free agency approaches in mid-March, attention turns to potential new additions among top cornerbacks and safeties across the NFL.
