The Cardinals and Bears have a shared history as the two remaining original franchises from the 1920 NFL inception. They coexisted in Chicago for four decades, forming a bond as family-owned teams. The passing of Bears owner Virginia McCaskey at 102 has resonated deeply with the Cardinals.

Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill expressed condolences, stating, "We join the entire NFL in celebrating the remarkable life of Virginia Halas McCaskey and send our most heartfelt condolences to her wonderful family that includes the players, coaches and fans of the Chicago Bears." He acknowledged her significant impact on both the league and the Bears franchise, adding, "However, her greatest legacy may be the character, compassion and kindness she demonstrated on a daily basis throughout her long life. With certainty, there will never be another like her."

McCaskey was present at Bill Bidwill's funeral in 2019, further highlighting the connection between these historic franchises.
