The Arizona Cardinals have placed running back Trey Benson on Injured Reserve due to an ankle injury, ending his season. The third-round rookie had missed the last two games and will not return for the team's season finale.

Benson contributed 291 rushing yards on 63 carries this season, with a touchdown and an average of 4.6 yards per attempt as James Conner's primary backup. Additionally, he recorded six receptions for 59 yards.

In response to Benson's absence, the Cardinals have promoted offensive lineman Nick Leverett from the practice squad to the active roster. To fill Leverett's spot on the practice squad, running back Hassan Hall has been re-signed by the team after being with them during the preseason.

Michael Carter remains an option for elevation from the practice squad and could start if Conner is unable to play in the upcoming game against the San Francisco 49ers. Conner played in Los Angeles despite dealing with a knee injury but exited in the first half after taking a hit to his knee. Coach Jonathan Gannon indicated that Conner's availability for this week's game is still uncertain.
