After the Cardinals' recent victory over the Patriots, quarterback Kyler Murray expressed a desire for more from his team's offensive performance. Despite securing a win with points and yardage, Murray indicated he expected greater efficiency.
"I think there was a couple plays that we left out there," Murray remarked on Wednesday. "Some explosives that could have been had. I think we have to be better in the pass game, continue to try to find more explosives. (We are) 28th in the league creating those, which is pretty low."
The Cardinals rank tied for 28th in explosive pass plays, sharing this position with the Bears by completing only 33 passes of 20 yards or more. A notable play against New England was Greg Dortch's catch-and-run for 39 yards, highlighting its significance for both team morale and audience excitement.
Offensive coordinator Drew Petzing acknowledged their substantial yardage gain and scoring achievement against New England but noted that Murray did not need extraordinary efforts to achieve these results. "The ordinary can be heroic," Petzing stated.
The dialogue surrounding the passing game has persisted throughout the season, partly due to Marvin Harrison Jr.'s development phase. The Cardinals face a weak run defense from Carolina in their upcoming match, likely focusing on running as their main strategy.
When asked about prioritizing explosive plays through passing, Murray responded: "I think we have to be better -- we're running the ball pretty well -- but we won the game," emphasizing victory over statistics as his primary concern.
