James Conner grew his hair out this offseason, sporting the same look he had in high school. The running back sees a message in that.

"I feel young," he said.

Conner, at 29, is coming off the best rushing season of his career with 1,040 yards on 208 carries despite missing four games. His 11 rushes of at least 20 yards led the NFL. In coordinator Drew Petzing's offense, he remains a significant threat.

Petzing highlighted Conner's role while discussing rookie running back Trey Benson's early-season potential: "James is the bell cow in that room," Petzing said.

Conner hadn't heard the comment but responded positively: "It's just an expectation they put on me that they want me to fulfill, that I'm willing to fulfill and ready to fulfill."

The team will focus on its running game with multiple weapons in the passing game and Kyler Murray eager to operate. Conner is not only the primary runner but also central to the unit's identity.

Despite being one of the Cardinals' best free-agent signings, Conner's name often doesn't come up in discussions about top acquisitions—a mistake given his impact.

Kyler Murray has started two season-opening games on the road, winning both and delivering impressive performances. Reflecting on their last encounter with the Bills in 2020, Murray recalled: "It seems like a long time ago... I felt like the game should have been over."

There is significant anticipation for Marvin Harrison Jr.'s debut against the Bills due to limited preseason exposure. He could be considered one of the best wideouts in this game.

Rookie outside linebacker Xavier Thomas views preseason as crucial preparation and now faces regular-season games where his performance will be closely watched. He acknowledges fan support but remains cautious: "If you don't go out there and perform, they won't like you."

The Cardinals will wear white uniforms in Buffalo. One notable player for the Bills will be Damar Hamlin, making his first start since suffering cardiac arrest during a game on January 2, 2023. Hamlin expressed relief at returning: "Sitting with that uncertainty was eating at me because football is truly my passion."

Hamlin found inspiration from fellow Pittsburgh alum James Conner, who overcame cancer during college.

The move of Paris Johnson Jr. from right tackle to left tackle has garnered attention this offseason. Meanwhile, veteran right tackle Jonah Williams has impressed head coach Jonathan Gannon: "I am so glad we acquired him... He's a true pro."

Veteran safety Budda Baker provided a spirited message after Friday’s practice stretch and expressed excitement for Sunday's opener: "I'm just excited to finally hit somebody."
