Michael Wilson's phone has become a crucial tool during training camp. The Arizona Cardinals' practice schedule, which typically starts around 12:30 PM, coincides with the United States Women's Olympic soccer team's games at noon Arizona time, due to the time difference with Paris. This timing allows Wilson to catch glimpses of his fiancée, Sophia Smith, playing for the U.S. team.

Wilson faced a similar situation last year when he was beginning his first NFL training camp while Smith and the USWNT were competing in the World Cup. He recalled learning during warmups that Smith had just scored a goal as he prepared for practice.

Wilson and Smith have been together for six years. Reflecting on their relationship, Wilson said he would have been more surprised if Smith had not become one of the top women's soccer players in the U.S., given her talent and dedication.

As Wilson aims to establish himself as the Cardinals' No. 2 wide receiver this year, he expressed his commitment to excellence: "I don't half-ass anything in life," he stated. His dedication is evident both on and off the field. For instance, Wilson shared details about his marriage proposal to Smith on June 14.

"If I could put a measurement on it, it'd be a 12 out of 10," Wilson said.

The proposal took place in Portland, where Smith plays professional soccer. After finishing minicamp on June 12, Wilson told Smith he needed to return to Arizona the following week, though in reality, the Cardinals were done for the offseason.

Despite their long-term relationship and previous discussions about marriage, Wilson worked hard to make his proposal a surprise. He coordinated with Smith's agency and Nike—Smith is a prominent Nike athlete—to fabricate an excuse involving a dinner for Nike athletes heading to the Olympics. He also arranged for car service so that Smith would remain unaware of his plans and flew out both sets of parents.

In a rose garden outside downtown Portland, Wilson executed his proposal flawlessly.

"It's going to be hard to top," he remarked.
