Banner Ironwood Medical Center is hosting its third annual Camp Scrubs program, a week-long initiative aimed at encouraging students to consider careers in healthcare. The program, now in its third year, is a collaboration with the J.O. Combs Unified School District, Combs Middle School, and other local districts. It is open to middle school students from the area.
Participants receive first-aid training and certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). They also shadow medical teams to gain an introduction to various fields such as wound care, orthopedics, medical imaging, surgical procedures, and pharmacy. Additionally, they have the opportunity to meet with the BannerAir team—a hospital-based air critical and lifesaving medical transport program.
Christina Stone, director of Camp Scrubs, emphasized the importance of this initiative for inspiring young minds. "The Camp Scrubs program serves as a crucial platform for introducing young minds to the world of healthcare. By providing unique experiences and knowledge, we strive to ignite a passion for nursing and healthcare careers among these students," said Stone.
Banner Ironwood Medical Center offers patient care services including emergency services, intensive care, surgery, obstetrics, and medical imaging to the Queen Creek and San Tan Valley communities. As part of Banner Health, it represents a significant long-term investment in medical excellence for the East Valley.
