Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Approves Recommendations for Regulatory Departments

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has given the green light to over 50 recommendations proposed by citizen task forces focused on enhancing customer service in the Department of Transportation and Flood Control District. The approval, following extensive stakeholder engagement, aims at improving service and process efficiencies within these regulatory departments.

Chairman Jack Sellers emphasized the importance of external input in governmental operations, stating, "Balancing safety and efficiency in government work can be a challenge, and that’s why we wanted outside stakeholders to help us understand what the County can do better." Sellers also commended the citizen committees for their valuable contributions, expressing the Board's eagerness to implement the recommendations.

Vice Chairman Thomas Galvin acknowledged the collaborative effort of various stakeholders, including cities, towns, and industry professionals, in shaping the recommendations. Galvin highlighted the positive impact of the suggestions on regulatory agencies and the community at large, envisioning a safer, stronger, and more prosperous community.

Supervisor Clint Hickman, reflecting on previous reform initiatives, emphasized the significance of stakeholder involvement in driving meaningful change. Hickman praised the recommendations for their role in eliminating outdated rules and procedures, facilitating the efficient completion of community development projects.

The recommendations center around enhancing the overall customer experience by simplifying permitting processes, fostering better coordination among regulatory bodies, and providing improved tools for navigating the regulatory landscape. A key outcome of the proposal is the upcoming launch of the "Permit Center," an online permitting system scheduled to debut in June. This platform will serve as a centralized portal for customers to manage submissions, reviews, and payments across regulatory departments, in line with stakeholder suggestions.

Following today's approval, county staff will commence the implementation of the recommended improvements, with a target completion date set for fall 2024.
