Merissa Hamilton, chairwoman of Strong Communities Action, said an Arizona Senate bill to ban red light cameras is “one of the most important bills” in this legislative session.
“I can't express enough how important this bill is,” Hamilton posted on X. “These cameras aren't just used for photo radar.”
“They are 24hr mass surveillance systems,” said Hamilton. “This is one of the most important bills of the session to save our freedom in AZ!”
SB 1003, introduced by State Sen. Wendy Rogers (R-Flagstaff), passed the Arizona Senate this week on a vote of 16-13, with every Senate Republican voting for the bill.
Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-Ariz.) vetoed a similar bill during the last session.
Hamilton is co-founder and CEO of Strong Communities Action and EZAZ.org ,which seeks to make civic action “Easy as Pie. She previously ran for Phoenix mayor in 2020 and serves as Member at Large of the Republican Party for Congressional District 1.
