Applications are available online for the Phoenix Promise scholarship program for students who attend Maricopa Community Colleges.

The $5-million program provides scholarship funding and support for around 400 Phoenix students pursuing two and four-year degrees at Maricopa Community College, according to an Oct. 11 release from the city. The Phoenix Promise program is administered through the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation, using American Rescue Plan Act funds, the release stated.

“Phoenix’s future is strengthened by partnerships that ensure today’s students have the best skills and are positioned for promising careers, including those in semiconductors, electric vehicles, healthcare, and computer technology advancement,” Phoenix Mayor, Kate Gallego, said in the release. “This program with Maricopa Community Colleges will help hundreds of students overcome barriers and access degree programs, delivering top talent to growing industries in Phoenix.”

Applications can be submitted at the Maricopa Community College Phoenix Promise website. The application deadline for spring 2023 is Oct. 31, the release stated.

The Executive Director of the Phoenix Business and Workforce Development Board, LaSetta Hogans, said the program will help the city grow a skilled workforce for the future.

“The Phoenix City Council’s unanimous Aug. 31 approval of this program demonstrates their support for this program and the city’s commitment to grow and maintain an experienced and educated workforce,” Hogans said. “Companies looking to grow and locate in Phoenix say talent is their number one reason for selecting a location. Phoenix Promise is for both our career-bound residents and growing companies in search of talent."
