Phoenix Fry’s Food Stores are set to feature a new mural by artist Kenneth Keene. On September 21, 2022, the City of Phoenix confirmed that the Office of Arts and Culture partnered with Fry’s Food Stores to commission and display local artist Kenneth Keene's mural in the new Fry’s Food Stores.

The store will open on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 26300 N. Norterra Parkway. Kenneth Keene applied for the $10,000 commission and was selected from 18 other applicants.

“Fry’s has become a leader in bolstering community connections between private development and the arts through mural commissions like this one,” Deputy Director of the City of Phoenix's Office of Arts and Culture Carrie Brown said.

Fry's Food executives also spoke positively about the mural and the opportunity it offers for their stores to retain customers.

“Ken had the ability to capture the landscape in a visually stunning and complex way that will make a huge impact on customers that enter the store,” Bo Wachendorf, Art Project Manager for Fry’s Food Stores, said.

The artist himself also spoke about the opportunity offered to him and what he hoped shoppers would get from the mural.

“I believe that my success as an artist is dependent on the viewer’s ability to take something away that is completely their own,” local artist Kenneth Keene said.
