City of Phoenix helps laid-off employees find work

Jobs

The City of Phoenix is helping individuals find temporary jobs as many have been laid off due to the coronavirus outbreak.

According to the Phoenix Business Journal, the city’s economic development department started reaching out to businesses last week to find out which ones were laying off employees and which ones were looking to hire.

“Several of our industries are finding things challenging, but other industries are ramping up quickly, like logistics, online companies and grocery,” City of Phoenix Economic Development Director Chris Mackay told the Business Journal. “Where one has a need, another has had to cut.”

For those who can’t find work, Gov. Doug Ducey recently signed an executive order that waives the one-week waiting period an employee who lost their job would have had to wait before applying for unemployment benefits.
