Arizona Rep. Nancy Barto issued the following announcement on March 12.

The Arizona House of Representatives today adopted an

amendment introduced by Representative Nancy Barto (R-15) to fund the Arizona Department of Health Services COVID-19 response efforts.

Representative Barto’s successful amendment to SB1051 immediately appropriates $5 million

from the Budget Stabilization Fund (the state’s rainy-day fund) in FY 2020 to the Public Health Emergencies Fund. The amendment also enables DHS to access up to an additional $50 million for expenses associated with the state’s public health emergency response. SB 1051 as amended passed the House 58 to 0 with an emergency clause, so it takes effect upon signature of the governor.

“Dr. Christ and the state’s Department of Health Services are doing excellent work to prevent and combat the spread of COVID-19 in Arizona,” said Representative Barto. “Building on the Declaration of Emergency and Executive Order issued by Governor Ducey

on March 11, it is important that we in the Legislature act swiftly to support the response efforts by ensuring the state has the proper resources and access to additional emergency funding if necessary.”
