On April 9, 2025, Gallego announced "This is why I’m calling for an Inspector General at the US Trade Representative. Trump shouldn’t be able to get away with giving tariff exemptions to all his rich friends and donors while everyday Americans and small businesses suffer." His tweet indicates a demand for oversight and transparency in the application of tariff exemptions that potentially benefit wealthy individuals at the expense of the general population.

On April 10, 2025, he highlighted concerns regarding possible insider trading, stating that "The S&P just had its worst 4-day drop ever—then its biggest gain since 2008. He claimed that such plans would lead to "Health care coverage stripped from 2 million Arizonans," the loss of "36,000+ jobs," and a "$3.7 billion blow to our economy," arguing that these cuts aim primarily at benefiting billionaires through tax breaks.
