On February 20, 2025, Gallego tweeted: "You can have border security without cruelty. But Trump just cut off legal aid for unaccompanied immigrant kids—many of them fleeing violence, some just months old. A toddler can’t argue their own asylum case. We’ll be looking at every option to fight this." This tweet highlights Gallego's disapproval of Trump's decision to end legal assistance for these vulnerable children.

Later that day, Gallego criticized Trump's decision-making priorities with another tweet posted at 20:04 UTC: "Every time Trump has a choice between helping working families or helping himself, he picks himself." Additionally, in a Spanish-language tweet posted at 21:45 UTC on the same day, Gallego reiterated his stance against Trump's policy change concerning immigrant children. He stated: "Podemos tener seguridad en la frontera sin crueldad. Pero Trump acaba de cortar la asistencia legal para los niños inmigrantes no acompañados, muchos de ellos huyendo de la violencia, algunos de ellos con apenas meses de edad.
