State Representative Jeff Weninger has introduced a new bill, HB2748, known as the "Fair Ticketing Act," aimed at addressing consumer concerns in Arizona's event ticketing industry. The legislation seeks to bring more trust and accountability to the process of purchasing tickets for concerts, sporting events, and other live entertainment.
Representative Weninger highlighted the current issues faced by consumers: "Right now, the ticketing process is unnecessarily stressful, overly complicated, and often expensive. Families may spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on tickets, flights and accommodations, only to have to wait to receive their actual tickets as little as 24 hours before an event. This isn’t just inconvenient — it’s unacceptable." He emphasized that from the moment of purchase, consumers should have certainty about delivery timeframes.
The Fair Ticketing Act mandates that original ticket sales be delivered immediately upon purchase. This measure aims to eliminate delays that cause stress and uncertainty among buyers.
The introduction of HB2748 comes in response to widespread distrust in the ticketing industry. Consumers have reported various frustrations including receiving fake tickets or getting their tickets just hours before an event begins.
The bill has garnered support from consumer advocates and industry stakeholders who oppose anti-consumer practices in ticketing.
Jeff Weninger is a Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives representing Legislative District 13, which includes Chandler, Gilbert, and Sun Lakes. He also serves as Chairman of the House Commerce Committee.
