The Greater Phoenix Chamber has announced the recipients of the 2023 ATHENA Awards, recognizing three women for their leadership and community service. Melody Lewis, owner and founder of Indigenous Community Collaborative, received the ATHENA Award in the private sector. Jeri Royce, president and CEO of Advance Community, was honored in the public sector. Naquana Borrero, CFRE; director of development and communications at Jazz in Arizona/The Nash and owner of Bella Vita Consulting Group, earned the ATHENA Young Professional Award.
"The Greater Phoenix Chamber’s ATHENA Awards celebrates the most inspiring women leaders in the Valley," said Todd Sanders, president and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Chamber. "These influential women are dedicated to building a brighter future and ensuring our community remains strong. They embody the best of the Arizona business community."
The ATHENA Awards are internationally recognized honors from ATHENA International that highlight women's achievements in leadership, community service, and mentoring.
Melody Lewis expressed her gratitude by stating: "The biggest thing for me is representation. I am the first Native American from my community to win this award." She emphasized her commitment to representing Indigenous people through her work with Indigenous Community Collaborative.
Jeri Royce reflected on her recognition by saying: "It’s amazing! Such an honor to be among such incredibly talented women." Her career spans over three decades with significant contributions to various organizations.
Naquana Borrero shared her excitement: "I am feeling grateful, overwhelmed, and excited." She highlighted that being the first black woman to win this award means a lot to her.
These winners were selected from 11 finalists out of a large pool of nominees.
