Gallego Statement on SCOTUS Upholding the Indian Child Welfare Act

WASHINGTON, DC – On June 15, Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03), a member and former chairman of the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Indian and Insular Affairs, released the following statement lauding the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Indian Child Welfare Act in Haaland v. Brackeen.

Statement from Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03):

“Today’s Supreme Court decision reaffirmed the foundational policy that the United States must respect Tribal sovereignty and uphold its obligations to Indian Country. I applaud the Court’s ruling and congratulate Tribal leaders and advocates for their success in protecting theIndian Child Welfare Act.”
