Adrianna Coronel has been named by Phoenix College as dean of industry and public service, where she will oversee eight instructional departments.

Coronel brings more than fifteen years of experience as a Phoenix College faculty member, including nine years as department chair of dental programs. She is past-president of the Phoenix College Faculty Senate, and also served the college for six years as a curriculum development facilitator. She had previously served in the role, on an interim basis, since January 2022.

Coronel is a graduate of the Phoenix College dental hygiene program. She holds a master’s degree in higher education and a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from Northern Arizona University. She is currently a doctoral candidate in curriculum and instruction at NAU.

Coronel has a passion for removing obstacles to education and providing viable career choices for students. “As a single mother, first-generation college student from a family of low socioeconomic status, I relate to the real challenges, barriers, and experiences our students face” Coronel said.

As faculty senate president, Coronel worked to build bridges between faculty and administration to ensure that the needs of faculty were communicated from a variety of perspectives. She is a strong proponent of the practice of shared governance, the enhancement of communication among all employee groups, and providing an outlet for reciprocal dialog between administration, faculty, and staff.

Coronel values equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive pedagogy for all students, providing every student with a path to academic success. She believes in the potential of all people and understands the need to close the achievement gaps. “I’ve had the privilege of teaching a diverse group of students who were on course to follow a similar career path as I once did. This has motivated me to find solutions to support the diverse financial, social, and personal needs of all students,” Coronel offered.

As a department chair, Coronel led efforts in department governance and management, curriculum and program development, accreditation, assessment, personnel and student matters, grant proposals, budget and facilities management, community and employer engagement, new revenue opportunities, advisory committee participation, and faculty mentorship and evaluation.

Coronel resides in Central Phoenix and has one daughter, Alisza (also a PC graduate), and enjoys visiting family in California.
