OTTAWA VUNIVERSITY-PHOENIX: Spirit Place Two on GSAC All-Conference Team

Ottawa University-Phoenix issued the following announcement on March 25

The OUAZ men's volleyball team had two players named to the 2020 GSAC Men's Volleyball All-Conference the league office announced this afternoon. Quaid King and Joaquin Santa Cruz were each selected to the 14-player team by the conference coaches.

Santa Cruz, a senior from Avondale, led the GSAC with 214 digs and by averaging 3.51 digs per set. He finished second in the NAIA in digs average and ninth in total digs. Santa Cruz recorded double-digit digs in 12 of the 18 matches, including a season-high 21 against Hope International on February 1. His season also included 51 assists and seven service aces. He is the OUAZ all-time leader with 723 career digs.

King, a freshman from Harrah, Okla., led the Spirit with 219 kills and was fourth in the conference by posting 3.71 kills per set. In hitting .253 for the season, King had 10-plus kills in a match 12 times with a career-high 19 at UC Merced on February 7. He added 31 blocks, 83 digs, and nine service aces to the season totals. His 219 kills are the third-most for a season in program history. 

Santa Cruz becomes the programs first two-time all-conference selection after also being honored by the GSAC last season. This is the second consecutive season that OUAZ has placed two players on the all-GSAC team.

OUAZ saw its season end with a 13-5 overall record and a program-best .722 winning percentage. The Spirit finished fourth in the GSAC with a 6-4 record in conference and they were the national runner-up at the NCCAA National Invitational.
