On March 13, the Board of Supervisors approved funding for equipping heat relief centers across Maricopa County with new dog shoes and water bowls for the upcoming summer months. Supervisor Thomas Galvin, District 2, expressed his satisfaction with this decision, stating, "I am proud of the Board’s commitment to provide heat relief services for Maricopa County residents during the hot summer months." He emphasized the importance of these supplies, mentioning that "Offering dog shoes and water bowls at these centers will be a tremendous help for people trying to keep their dogs hydrated and protected from paw burns."

The initiative to provide dog shoes and water bowls is part of a broader effort to enhance heat preparedness in the county. This includes the establishment of emergency cooling centers and water distribution areas from May 1 to September 30 to offer refuge to individuals who lack access to cool indoor environments during the sweltering summer months.

The funding for purchasing these dog supplies, amounting to $8,000, has been allocated from the Maricopa County Community Solutions Funding by Supervisor Galvin through October 31, 2024. The Community Solutions Funding aims to support the county's strategic goals and provide tangible public benefits for the residents of Maricopa County.

For individuals seeking information on staying safe in extreme heat and locating nearby cooling centers, further details can be found at the official Maricopa County website: https://www.maricopa.gov/1871/Extreme-Heat.
