Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari marked the fifth anniversary of the January 6 Capitol attack with a moment of silence alongside colleagues on the Senate steps, according to a series of posts made on her official Twitter account in early January 2026.
On January 6, Ansari posted: “Back in DC and just shared a moment of silence with colleagues on the Senate steps, on the fifth anniversary of the violent January 6 insurrection. Here’s what’s going on this week in Congress. It’s going to be a busy one.”
Later that evening, she issued another statement calling for transparency regarding high-profile criminal investigations: “Release the goddamn Epstein Files.” This comment referred to ongoing public demands for disclosure of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein’s activities and associates.
In an additional post dated January 7, Ansari criticized former President Donald Trump over reported foreign policy proposals involving Greenland: “This is not a joke. Trump follows through on many of his stupidest ideas.
Threatening a longtime ally over Greenland—yet another Trump vanity project—would destroy NATO, sabotage our alliances with Europe, and hand Russia and China exactly the precedent they want. Catastrophic.”
Ansari was elected to Congress in 2024 after defeating Jeff Zink in the general election by securing approximately 71% of the vote compared to Zink’s 27%.
The posts reflect Ansari’s positions on issues ranging from domestic security and government transparency to international relations. The mention of NATO and U.S.-European alliances highlights concerns about potential shifts in American foreign policy.
