Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari, who represents Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives after defeating Jeff Zink in the 2024 general election, used her social media platform to criticize recent decisions by Republican leadership regarding a federal government shutdown.
On October 3, 2025, Ansari posted on X: “.@SpeakerJohnson just told Republicans not to come back next week. Outrageous. Not only do they want to stay on vacation & prolong the Trump shutdown, they want to leverage it to keep covering up the Epstein files. Rep-elect @AdelitaForAZ needs to be sworn in immediately.”
Later that same day, she wrote: “Donald Trump is weaponizing his shutdown to illegally fire thousands of federal workers. It’s authoritarian, it’s unlawful, and we won’t let it stand. Proud to join @OversightDems in launching investigations across every Cabinet agency.” This statement referenced ongoing efforts by Democratic members of Congress to investigate actions taken during the government shutdown.
On October 4, 2025, Ansari continued her criticism with another post: “.@SpeakerJohnson just cancelled votes next week. This shutdown belongs to him, Trump, and Republicans. They aren’t showing up to do their jobs while people and families around the country are suffering. This is absolutely unacceptable.”
Ansari was elected to Congress after winning against Jeff Zink with over 70% of the vote in 2024.
